Nick Brandt fotografeert dieren zoals andere fotografen mensen portretteren.

Doordat hij geen gebruik maakt van telelenzen, slaagt hij erin om een uniek beeld van de dieren te maken. “You wouldn’t photograph a person from one hundred feet away with a telephoto lens and expect to capture their personality. I feel the same way about photographing animals” aldus Nick Brandt.

Ook houdt hij ervan te fotograferen onder een bewolkte hemel. “It perhaps sounds a little strange to choose to photograph in cloudy weather, but the flat light makes the shape of the animal cleaner, more graphic, more iconic. There are no heavy shadows and blown-out highlights to obscure, to complicate the shape of the animal.”

Het resultaat van zijn werk werd gebundeld in 2 boeken “On this Earth” (oktober 2005) en “A shadow falls” (dat in september 2009 zal uitgegeven worden en 58 indrukwekkende foto’s zal omvatten).

Vanaf 10 november 2009 tot januari 2010 exposeert Nick Brandt in de Young Gallery te Brussel.
